2009 Jeep Commander Overview

New for the 2009 Jeep Commander are redesigned wheels, while Xenon headlights become standard for the Overland and optional for the Limited. With a choice of rear- or four-wheel drive, the base Jeep Commander Sport is powered by a 3.7L V6 engine capable of 210 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque, while the Limited is equipped with a 4.7L V8 engine good for 302 hp and 329 lb-ft of torque, both paired to a five-speed automatic transmission. However, the Jeep Commander Overland packs a 5.7L HEMI V8 engine generating 357 hp and 389 lb-ft of torque, also with the five-speed automatic transmission. EPA fuel economy estimates range from 13 mpg city/18 mpg hwy for the V8 4WD to 15/20 mpg for the V6 RWD. With both five- and seven-passenger configurations available, the large- to mid-size Commander SUV offers 7.5 cubic feet of storage with all three rows in use, 36.4 with the third row stowed and 68.9 cubic feet with all rear seats folded. Safety features include antilock brakes and a full complement of airbags.
