2009 MINI Cooper Hardtop Overview

The 2009 MINI Cooper 2-door hardtop coupe marches along offering the latest high-performance John Cooper Works package with a turbocharged engine, a stronger transmission, a sportier suspension, upgraded brakes and refreshed interior and exterior styling. The base Mini Cooper comes with a 1.6L four-cylinder engine that generates 118 hp and 114 lb-ft of torque, while the Cooper S hatchback is powered by a turbocharged version of the engine that puts out 172 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. Topping that performance is the John Cooper Works trim, equipped with an enhanced version of the engine, which churns out 208 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque. Standard with all three engines is a six-speed manual transmission, while a six-speed automatic with manual shift control is optional. Fuel economy of 28 mpg city/37 mpg hwy and 32 mpg combined is expected with the manual transmission, but the Cooper S and John Cooper Works still get 26/34/29 mpg with the stick shift, while the automatic drops fuel economy by another 2-3 mpg.
