2009 Toyota Camry Overview

Largely unchanged, the five-passenger 2009 Toyota Camry midsize four-door sedan continues to reign as America's best-selling car. With front-wheel drive standard, the Camry is powered by a base 2.4L four-cylinder engine good for158 hp and 161 lb-ft of torque, coupled to either a five-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic transmission, except on the XLE, which is automatic only. The four-cylinder engine possesses Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle certification and satisfies the more stringent Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle standard in California-emissions states, but with just 155 hp and 158 lb-ft. Regardless of transmission, Toyota Camry EPA fuel economy ratings are 21 mpg city/31 mpg hwy. For more speed, a 3.5L V6 engine that cranks out 268 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque is available with a mandatory six-speed automatic. In this configuration, the EPA-rated fuel economy is 19/28 mpg. Standard safety features include antilock brakes with brake assist, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and a driver knee airbag, while stability and traction control are optional.
