2012 Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale - Frankfurt Auto Show
Lamborghini pulled the wraps off of its Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The car is based on a racecar built for the Blancpain Super Trofeo racing series, which explains the Stradale's large rear spoiler and quick detach mechanisms for the lightweight carbon fiber hood and engine cover.
The road going racer has shed some weight in other areas as well. Lamborghini says the Stradale is around 150 pounds lighter than the normal Gallardo.
The Super Trofeo Stradale comes with all the goodies one would expect from a Lamborghini racer. Its 5.2-liter, 562 horsepower V10 engine can fly from 0-60 in 3.4 seconds, and if you have the desire, on to a top speed of 199 MPH.
Just like the Lamborghini racecars, all of the Super Trofeo Stradales come with Lamboghini's e-Gear automated manual gearbox.
The car is being promoted in Lamborghini's new Rosso Mars color scheme that the company says pays homage to Italy's racing heritage - just don't call it Ferrari Red. If you prefer another color, the car can also be had in Grigio Telesto (gray) or Bianco Monocerus (white).
Other options include racecar-like items such as carbon ceramic brakes, a roll cage, a four point racing harness and a fire extinguisher. And for non-track days, there's also satellite navigation, Bluetooth connectivity and a suspension that raises the car up to go over speed bumps.
Don't spend too much time pondering the available options, though. Lamborghini will only be making 150 of the special edition Gallardos, and we imagine some of its more loyal customers have already spoken for the majority of them.
