Auto Show: 2011 New York Auto Show
2012 Range Rover Autobiography Ultimate Edition - New York Auto Show
It’s fitting that Range Rover would come out with the super exclusive Autobiography Ultimate Edition. After all, Range Rover holds the British court appointed Royal warrant. In other words, the company provides cars to the Royal family in the UK. The Range Rover Autobiography Ultimate is, as expected, ultra elite. Shown for the first time in North America at the NYIAS, only 500 will be commissioned for buyers around the world and fewer than 50 will be available in the US. The hand-finished vehicle, priced at $170,000, is being designed and engineered in Britain and crafted to customer order.
The bespoke Ultimate Edition is by no means discreet. Riding on 20” multi-spoke diamond-turned alloy wheels, it can be ordered in two new colors–a rich Roussillon Red or sophisticated Otago Stone–with body colored door handles, dark atlas radiator grille and side vents. (Deployable side steps, for a regal arrival or exit, are optional.)
But the cabin is where the Ultimate Edition shows off its royal heritage along with cutting edge amenities. To wit, the rear seat console extension includes a machined aluminum laptop table, drinks chiller and two Apple iPad devices as a standard part of the entertainment system. The stand-alone powered rear seats promise more space and comfort.
Interior appointments include soft natural leather seating; Oxford leather adorns the door casings, dashboard top and steering wheel and select Kalahari wood finishes embellish the dashboard and door trim. This is all quite lovely but the rear luggage space is awesome. The super-yacht inspired teak floor with metal and leather detailing is grand.
The Ultimate comes equipped with a 5.0-liter Supercharged V8 engine delivering 510 hp and 461 lb-ft of torque with a 0-60 mph of 5.9 seconds.
So, this all begs the question. Will we see the Range Rover Autobiography Ultimate Edition in the upcoming Royal Wedding? Land Rover is mum on the subject.
