2011 Toyota Prius

Over the last decade, the Toyota Motor Corporation has enjoyed any number of successes, both within Japan and the global automotive community. None of those individual successes, however, exceed the singular achievement marked by the debut of the company's pivotal product, the Prius hybrid. And with the opening of the Frankfurt Auto Show, that singular achievement is commemorated with a full lineup of Prius derivatives. Beyond predictable updates to Toyota's quintessential hybrid, the lineup is joined by the production version of the Prius Plug-in and the 7-seat Prius+. And with these announcements Prius becomes its own stand-alone hybrid range.

After seemingly years of speculation, Toyota finally unveils the production version of the Prius Plug-in Hybrid. Described as the "most advanced and greenest Prius yet," the Plug-in boasts a range of roughly thirteen miles on electric-only mode, and can be fully recharged from a domestic source in just 90 minutes.

Also on the Toyota stand in Frankfurt is the 2012 Toyota Prius+. The Prius+ is essentially what we see in the US as the Prius V. However, while the expanded profile of the V nets US customers more cargo room, in Europe that same profile provides customers with three rows of seating. Although we didn't try it, Toyota promises generous room for adults in all three rows. Like the balance of the Prius lineup, a host of electronic upgrades are available, including touchscreen multimedia, navigation and energy-saving premium audio.
