ARK Performance Overhauls Hyundai Veloster - SEMA Auto Show
Thanks to someone else featured on Hyundai's SEMA stand, Rhys Millen, thinking of a Veloster when the topic of rallying comes up is no longer a stretch of the imagination. Hoping to capitalize on that is ARK Performance, who made the Veloster you see here by throwing its catalog at it.
Underneath the striking dark grey and bright green paintwork is a full ARK body kit, featuring a new front lip, side skirts, rear bumper, and who can miss those wide fenders? Under the hood is the whole package, with a twin-scroll turbocharger, turbo manifold, and oil cooler. Also aiding in keeping the engine breathing coolly is an ARK intercooler system, with a complete set of pipes. Hyundai says that the kit is good for 210 horsepower; up from the Veloster's stock 163. Keeping the chassis taught is a full helping of components. Front-and-center of those is an eight-point roll cage keeping things pinned down inside, while residing underneath is an upper strut bar, and sway bars both front and rear.
ARK can't do it all, though, so the interior was trusted to JPM Coachworks, who used a healthy dose of Alcantara on just about every surface, including the dash, headliner, door cards, and shift boot. Image Dynamics handles the entertainment end, with two amplifiers, a full set of component speakers, and a set of 10" subwoofers. Tucked underneath those beefy fenders sits four equally beefy Advan RZ wheels finished in gunmetal. If things get a little too out of hand, ARK six-piston brakes should be able to rein it in.
ARK is trying to become the de facto tuning house when it comes to Hyundais, and this certainly is a step in the right direction. And being able to partner with Hyundai itself during the process certainly mustn't have hurt either.
