Green Car Deals: July 2013
Today's crop of fuel-efficient new models is often priced at a premium. But we've rounded up some of the best green car deals, proving you don't need to spend a fortune to get an exciting new gas saver.
The Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in hybrid with an electric motor and a range-extending gasoline engine. It's available with two impressive offers in July. For lease shoppers, Chevrolet is touting payments starting as low as $269 per month for 36 months after $2,399 at lease signing. While that's a strong offer for a vehicle with a $40,000 base price, we're also taken with the model's cash-back deal. Through the end of the month, Chevrolet is offering a whopping $4,000 cash back on the Volt -- a figure typically reserved for full-size trucks.
Ford Focus Electric
The Ford Focus Electric is a fully electric version of Ford's 5-door Focus compact hatchback. It's available in July with a special offer for those looking to finance. That's different from many EVs, which have strong lease deals available. Through the end of the month, shoppers financing a Focus Electric can get 0 percent interest for up to 60 months, or 1.9 percent for 72 months. More important, that offer is also available with up to $2,000 cash back. The deal meets or exceeds EV incentives from nearly every rival automaker.
The Nissan Leaf is a fully electric hatchback that can reach around 75 miles on a single charge. In July, it's still available with the deals that make it such a good value for many city-dwelling shoppers. For those buying the Leaf, that means 0 percent interest for up to 36 months. But for drivers who would rather lease, Nissan is offering payments that start at $199 per month for 36 months after $1,999 due at lease signing. Of course, those deals don't even include the massive federal tax savings you get from buying an electric vehicle.
Toyota Camry Hybrid
The Toyota Camry Hybrid is a hybrid version of the popular Toyota Camry sedan. In July, it's offered with incentives for shoppers looking to lease or finance. For buyers who lease, the Camry Hybrid is available with payments starting at just $249 per month. While that payment requires $2,648 down, it's only $60 per month more than a regular Camry -- and some shoppers will make up those savings at the gas pump. For those looking to finance, Toyota is offering an even better deal this month: 0 percent interest for up to 60 months.
The popular Toyota Prius is a 5-door hybrid hatchback that offers some of the best fuel economy on the market. In July, it's also a great deal whether you're looking to finance or lease. For lease shoppers, Toyota is offering a 36-month deal on the Prius with payments from $229 per month after $2,628 at lease signing. Drivers financing a Prius get an even better deal, with the automaker advertising 0 percent interest for up to 60 months or 1.9 percent for 72 months. Rates such as that were unheard of for the Prius even a few months ago.
