Green Car Deals: September 2013
Drivers who want a fuel-efficient new car don't need to spend a fortune to get one. Our list of green car deals proves incentives are available on many of today's most popular electric cars, hybrids and diesels.
BMW ActiveHybrid 3
The BMW ActiveHybrid 3 combines sporty 3 Series sedan dynamics with an efficient hybrid powertrain. In September, it's the best deal in the 3 Series lineup thanks to low finance rates not offered on other models. While most 3 Series models are available with interest rates from 2.99 percent, the 2013 ActiveHybrid 3 starts at 1.9 percent -- a rare figure for a BMW. Shoppers who would rather lease can also get a good deal on the ActiveHybrid 3, as the sedan is available for 36 months with payments from $469 per month after $4,194 down at lease signing.
The Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in hybrid that can travel around 30 miles without using any fuel before its range-extending gasoline engine kicks in. In September, it's available with a lot of incentives. For shoppers paying in full, Chevrolet is offering $5,000 cash back on the 2013 Volt. For those looking to finance, Chevrolet is offering 0-percent interest for 48 months on the 2014 Volt. But the best deal is Chevrolet's lease offer, as the 2014 Volt can be had with payments from $299 per month for 36 months after just $2,499 down at lease signing.
Lincoln MKZ Hybrid
The 2013 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid is a luxury sedan that boasts nearly 50 miles per gallon in both city and highway driving. In September, it's offered with a few incentives for shoppers who want to combine luxury and efficiency. For qualified drivers looking to finance, Lincoln is offering 0-percent interest for up to 60 months -- a deal that's also available with up to $1,000 cash back. Drivers who would prefer to lease can also get a good deal this month, as Lincoln is offering payments from $369 per month for 36 months after $3,769 down at lease signing.
The Nissan Leaf is a fully electric hatchback capable of traveling around 75 miles on a single charge. In September, the 2013 Leaf is offered with two big incentives. The best is a lease deal: For 36 months, shoppers can lease a Leaf with payments from just $199 per month after $1,999 down at lease signing. But Nissan is also offering a low-interest offer for qualified drivers looking to buy the Leaf. Through the end of the month, it's available with 0-percent interest for up to 36 months.
The popular Toyota Prius hatchback is still one of the most fuel-efficient cars on the market. In September, it's also a good deal thanks to two big incentives from Toyota. One touts a low interest rate on the car, with Toyota offering 0-percent interest for up to 60 months on all 2013 Prius models. But Toyota is also offering a strong lease rate, touting a 36-month term with payments from $249 per month after $2,648 down at lease signing.
Volkswagen Jetta TDI
The Volkswagen Jetta TDI is a compact sedan with exceptional gas mileage thanks to its diesel powertrain. In September, Volkswagen has a good deal available on the 2013 Jetta TDI. Through the end of the month, qualified shoppers who don't mind last year's model can finance a 2013 Jetta TDI with 0-percent interest for up to 60 months. That's a good deal, since the largely similar 2014 model isn't available with any incentives or special finance rates.
