Acura Prices New V6-Powered 2013 RDX

Unveiled earlier this month at the Chicago Auto Show, Acura's all-new 2013 RDX is set to arrive in dealerships this spring. The compact luxury crossover is redesigned inside and out and has a new 3.5-liter V6 for more power and better efficiency. As with the outgoing 2012 model, only two options are available - all-wheel drive and a technology package that includes navigation.

Pricing for the base RDX and loaded RDX with AWD and Technology Package are each up $1,425 to $34,320 and $39,420 respectively. The pricing changes are trickier when it comes to the two models in the middle of the range.

The all-wheel drive option is more attractive than ever thanks to the bigger engine and a new six-speed automatic transmission that deliver a 5 mpg increase in highway economy. Plus, the all-wheel drive setup was a $2,000 option on the last RDX. That premium is now down to $1400, making the 2013 RDX with AWD just $825 more than the comparable outgoing model.

If the all-wheel drive RDX is the winner, the RDX with the Technology Package is the loser. That option sees a significant price hike, from $3,100 for 2012 models to $3,700 for 2013. On the loaded RDX, the price bump on the Technology Package gets cancelled out by the savings on the all-wheel drive. But the RDX with only the Technology Package now tops $38,000, a $2000 premium over the comparable 2012 model.

The base model 2013 RDX is luxury grade, with leather seats, a moonroof, active noise cancellation, a backup camera, keyless entry and push-button start. The now-pricier Technology Package adds not only navigation, but satellite-linked traffic and weather plus a 60-gigabyte hard drive. Further, it includes dual-zone climate control with solar sensing, a power tailgate and xenon headlights. So while the package adds significantly to the bottom line, it is a comprehensive group of upgrades.

All RDX pricing is up for the new 2013 models, but the new crossover is more efficient, too. Some drivers, especially those with the all-wheel drive option, will make up for a higher purchase price with savings at the gas pump.

What it means to you: The new V6-powered RDX hits Acura dealerships this spring. The all-wheel drive RDX is a bargain for drivers who want luxury and cold-climate performance.
