Chevrolet recently launched its own social media network, which the automaker describes as "social media for gearheads." Officially dubbed The Block and located at TheBlock.com, the online community allows automotive enthusiasts to upload profiles that can be shared with friends and contains information about the latest Chevrolet news and events.

For many automotive enthusiasts, The Block's most exciting feature is that it lets users create individual profiles, from which they can showcase videos and photos of their vehicles. Such profiles can be shared using a unique QR code, which Chevrolet says will be handy at car shows, cruise nights, drag races and even on a break during an off-road adventure.

But the site offers more than just a long list of member profiles. According to Chevrolet, The Block will also be the automaker's first source for information on new parts and accessories, from aftermarket add-ons to crate engines. The site will also serve as a veritable bulletin board for information about Chevrolet racing, offering a slew of information about events like NASCAR, IndyCar and dirt track racing.

Automotive enthusiasts can also meet on The Block to discuss a wide variety of topics from racing and motorsport to project cars and tuning. Many insiders will have profiles on the site, Chevrolet says, so gearheads may find their automotive questions being answered directly by the brand's highly qualified performance engineers.

"The Block is social media for gearheads," said Jim Campbell, U.S. vice-president of performance vehicles and motorsports for General Motors, Chevrolet's parent company. "Whether you're into street rods, muscle cars, trucks or late-model performers, it is designed for enthusiasts of all stripes to share their experiences and talk about their projects with like-minded people who share a passion for building, racing and enjoying cars and trucks."

According to Chevrolet, The Block also features the brand's latest news and a host of information about its products including updates on the upcoming high-performance COPO Camaro and the next-generation Corvette. The automaker will also upload a schedule of its upcoming events.
