  • 2013 Dodge Dart gaining special editions
  • SXT and Limited Special Edition add features
  • Rallye Appearance Group adds styling touches

Dodge's compact Dart sedan will soon gain three new special edition option packages. Two of the new packages are based on the mid-level Dart SXT, while the other adds features to the upscale Dart Limited.

Dodge calls its least-expensive package the Rallye Appearance Group. Available for $395 on the Dart SXT, the package includes a Rallye badge on the trunk, a dark-colored grille and 17-inch alloy wheels.

That gives Dart shoppers two different Rallye models to choose from. Our Dodge Dart long-term test car features the other Rallye Package, which costs $1,000 above a standard Dart SXT. In addition to items from the Rallye Appearance Group, the Rallye Package offers dual exhausts, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and premium cloth seats.

Dodge is offering a new Special Edition package for the SXT, as well. Available for $595, the package includes the same black grille as the Rallye, along with Bluetooth, fog lights, cruise control and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls.

Topping the range of the Dart's latest offerings is a Special Edition package for the Dart Limited. Since the Dart Limited is already well-equipped, the Special Edition package includes more upscale features. Available for $1,810, it features a sunroof, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, SiriusXM satellite radio and dual-zone automatic climate control.

The new packages are likely the result of Dodge grouping popular options to make it easier for shoppers to find the right Dart. The sedan went on sale in June 2012, giving Dodge ample time to analyze shopper preferences.

The 2013 Dodge Dart competes with the Ford Focus, Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. Four trim levels are offered: the base-level Dart SE, the mid-level SXT, the upscale Limited and the fuel-efficient Dart Aero. Prices range from $16,500 with shipping for a Dart SE to around $20,500 for a Dart Limited.

What it means to you: If you're considering a Dodge Dart, you may be interested in the sedan's latest special edition option packages.
