  • Mercedes S-Class Coupe revealed ahead of Geneva
  • High-end coupe will replace today's CL-Class
  • Many design cues borrowed from S-Class sedan

The 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe has been officially unveiled. Mercedes-Benz recently showed off the new model, set to replace the full-size CL-Class, ahead of its global debut next month at the Geneva Auto Show.

On the outside, the S-Class Coupe offers an elegant shape that includes few surprises. That's because it draws many styling cues from the full-size S-Class sedan, which was redesigned for the 2014 model year. In other words, expect soft, flowing lines, a graceful shape and understated looks that hardly reveal the coupe's performance potential.

Not surprisingly, that potential is strong thanks to a standard 4.7-liter turbocharged V8. It's the same engine in today's S550, and it's good for a whopping 455 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. In typical Mercedes fashion, more powerful S-Class Coupe models are expected to follow after the base model's debut.

Inside, the S-Class Coupe also borrows a lot of design cues from the standard S-Class. They include four center-mounted air vents, upright dashboard screens and a center-mounted controller for the COMAND system. Of course, the S-Class Coupe will also feature high-end materials and an endlessly customizable interior.

So what sets the S-Class Coupe apart from its sedan stablemate? Aside from its 2-door body style, the coupe boasts a few changes over the typical S-Class. One is a subtle trunk spoiler in back, which is included on several sporty new Mercedes models. Another is the sporty 3-spoke steering wheel, which replaces the controversial 2-spoke unit in the S-Class sedan. And the S-Class Coupe boasts exclusive optional headlights fitted with 47 Swarovski crystals.

Stay tuned for more information about the S-Class Coupe, as we'll have more news when the coupe debuts in Geneva.

What it means to you: The 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe takes today's CL-Class to a new level of opulence and elegance.
