Automakers often use a special edition to bring together desirable options in a single package deal. That's certainly the formula behind the latest limited-edition version of the best-selling car in America. The 2012 Toyota Camry SE Sport includes equipment buyers love--navigation, alloy wheels and a sunroof, just to name a few--all with an affordable price tag.
According to Toyota, the all-new 7th-generation 2012 Camry is engineered to provide a more satisfying driving experience while still delivering the comfort and practicality that has long made the midsize sedan a winner. And the new Sport model's SE trim is really the sportiest of the four trim levels. While the Camry SE is available with either a new 4-cylinder or a V6 engine, the Sport edition uses the 4-cylinder exclusively, delivering a nice balance of power and economy. Equipped with the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder and a standard 6-speed automatic transmission, the Camry is rated at 25 mpg city and 35 mpg highway.
The Camry SE also gets performance-related equipment upgrades and sportier styling cues than the base model. The transmission includes steering-wheel-mounted paddles for manual gear selection and includes a sport mode for faster shifts and automatic throttle blipping on downshifts. The SE looks the part, with beefier rocker panels, fog lights and integrated spoilers.
But it's the limited-edition Sport package that stacks the Camry SE with desirable options. Smoke-finish 18-inch alloy wheels set off the exterior appearance, and interior appointments improve the level of refinement. A power sunroof and 8-way power driver's seat add comfort and convenience. And the 6.1-in touch screen Display Audio with Navigation and Toyota's Entune system offers technology rarely seen in midsize sedans under $30,000.
Considering its list of features, the manufacturer's suggested retail price for the 2012 Toyota Camry SE Sport is perhaps its greatest strength. At $25,995, the SE Sport is an excellent value.
The Camry SE Sport edition is arriving at Toyota dealers nationwide now. In all, three exterior colors will be offered. Vehicles finished in Barcelona Red and Attitude Black are the first to be delivered, with Blizzard Pearl models arriving later this month. For great value in a well-equipped 4-cylinder Camry, consider the limited-edition SE Sport.
What it means to you: The midsize best-seller Camry SE already offers the sportiest trim, but the limited-edition Sport model ups the ante.
