  • Styling updates carry over from 2012.
  • Offered in either front- or all-wheel drive.
  • Pricing up $200 across the board.

Along with parent company Honda, Acura's vehicles clearly reflect an ethos of, "If it's not broken, don't fix it." Neither automaker appears to be afraid of change, but outside of major redesigns, revisions tend to be incremental, adding a bit more functionality here and there without upsetting the overall recipe. That's certainly the case with the 2013 Acura TL.

The TL received a major redesign for the 2009 model year. The 2012 model arrived wearing updated front and rear designs and picked up some minor changes aimed at improving functionality, luxury and reliability. Pricing for the 2013 TL reflects its only discernible change; a $200 increase to the manufacturer's suggested retail price affects each model in the lineup.

The TL's revised front end includes a new bumper, grille, headlights and turn signals. The look brings the TL in line with the styling of other Acura models like the MDX and all-new RDX and also yields an aerodynamic advantage over its predecessor. The treatment at the rear is similarly updated for the 2012 model and carries over to the latest TL. It includes a new bumper that loses the older, more upright look.

Other tweaks that first landed on the 2012 TL include new available equipment like a blind spot information system and ventilated front seats. Both of those are part of the Advance package, which can be added to both the base TL and the all-wheel drive version.

The Technology package, which includes a 60-gigabyte hard drive and an 8-inch display, is likewise available on both TL models. Tech-equipped vehicles include refined Bluetooth capabilities and improved information for the navigation system.

The base 2013 Acura TL is priced at $35,705. With the Technology package, the price increases to $39,435, and the Advance package adds another $2,200. The TL SH-AWD gets both a bigger and more powerful V6 and the improved traction and handling of all-wheel drive. It starts at $39,255 and can top $45,000 with the Advance package.

The latest TL might not be radically different from last year's model, but that's not bad news given the level of quality and refinement of the 2012 model. And because pricing remains very close, the value proposition of the 2013 model is on par with its predecessor's. Among $40,000 midsize luxury sedans, the 2013 TL remains worthy of consideration.

What it means to you: With the 2012 TL updated inside and out, Acura's change for the 2013 is limited to a $200 across-the-board price increase.
