2013 Chrysler 300, 200 Special Editions
- Chrysler is adding special edition 200, 300 models.
- The models will be out next year.
- Chrysler didn't announce many details.
Chrysler will soon build on the success of earlier limited production models by offering special editions of its 200 and 300 sedans. The automaker says a new Chrysler 200 8 Mile Edition will mark the film's 10-year anniversary, while the Chrysler 300 Motown Edition commemorates a new Broadway show about the legendary Detroit musical genre.
While Chrysler hasn't confirmed details about the latest 200 and 300 variants, the new trims are among 66 future models the automaker says it will roll out to dealers by 2014. Many of the other vehicles included in that optimistic figure are likely special editions, as the brand has seen success with such models in the past.
For the 200 and 300, the newly announced special editions commemorate the entertainment industry. The 200 8 Mile Edition marks the tenth anniversary of the film by the same name, starring rapper Eminem, who appeared in a 2011 Chrysler Super Bowl commercial. The commercial introduced Chrysler's latest tagline, Imported from Detroit, which is Eminem's hometown and the movie's setting.
The Chrysler 300 Motown Edition, meanwhile, celebrates the release of Motown: The Musical, a Broadway show about the rise of Motown music and acclaimed producer Berry Gordy. That model marks the latest in a line of special-edition 300 models, including the all-wheel-drive 300 Glacier and the upscale 300C John Varvatos, named for the high-fashion menswear designer who grew up in Detroit.
Other recent limited-edition Chrysler models include a Red Wings Edition Ram pickup marketed in the Detroit area, a Gucci-themed FIAT 500 and an Altitude version of the go-anywhere Jeep Wrangler SUV.
Although Chrysler hasn't announced pricing or release dates for the 200 8 Mile Edition and the 300 Motown Edition, we'd expect to see the cars arrive in dealer showrooms early next year. We're also expecting to hear more about upcoming Chrysler special editions over the next few months.
What it means to you: Drivers interested in a unique version of the 200 or 300 might want to check out the latest special editions when they reach the market.
