  • Navigation features 8-inch touchscreen and more comprehensive guidance.
  • More robust voice recognition means easier destination inputs.
  • Joystick-style dial and hotkeys allow distraction-free operation.

Updates to the 2013 Hyundai Genesis focus on improvements to the available navigation system, which can be paired with the automaker's Blue Link telematics platform. Hyundai's Ultimate Navigation package, available on the Genesis 5.0 R-Spec and 3.8 technology package, offers an improved interface, more robust voice recognition and more comprehensive guidance at intersections and interchanges. It also provides Blue Link, which includes a host of safety and concierge services.

The Ultimate Navigation package's upgraded interface uses an 8-inch touchscreen driver information system display and a joystick-style dial surrounded by hotkeys for quick, tactile inputs with minimal distraction. Further promoting safe use of the system, enhanced voice recognition means the driver may now announce the street address and city in one phrase.

Improved guidance may prove beneficial to safety and attention to the road. The navigation system displays the next three turns, which could be especially useful when several maneuvers are necessary in a short distance. Lane guidance is provided at intersections and interchanges, and images of road and highway signage help the driver to confirm the correct route with just a glance.

Paired up with Hyundai's Blue Link telematics platform, the Ultimate Navigation package has a range of extended functionality including safety, traffic and point-of-interest tools. From convenience features like remote lock/unlock or remote start to safety assistance in the event of an accident, the system's communications capabilities provide comfort and peace of mind. But Blue Link can also help with everyday needs like routing around heavy traffic or finding a gas station or Zagat-rated restaurant.

The updated technology for 2013 arrives alongside changes to the Hyundai Genesis engine and trim choices. The 3.8-liter V6 remains, but V8-power is now limited to only the 5.0 R-Spec model. The 4.6-liter V8 is no longer available. Overall, the choices offered in the Genesis model lineup are simpler and easy to navigate. Choose the Ultimate Navigation package, and the upgraded technology may also prove simple and easy to use.

What it means to you: Choose the Genesis 3.8 technology package or the Genesis 5.0 R-Spec, both of which offer Hyundai's feature-rich Ultimate Navigation package.
