  • Welcome to CSI: Los Angeles
  • Car Show Investigation, that is
  • More than 20 world debuts scheduled

Before we enter the 2013 LA Auto Show, let's take a quick drive up the Pacific Coast Highway between Santa Monica and Malibu. This can give us a snapshot of the vibrant motoring culture in and around Los Angeles.

Among the many Mercedes-Benz models will be several sightings of the Tesla Model S all-electric sedan, and we'll lose count of how many times we'll see a Toyota Prius. The birthplace of the hot rod has matured and diversified to encompass luxury cars, green cars and luxurious green cars.

Anything cutting-edge is welcomed here. Whenever an exotic supercar is launched, chances are that Angelenos will be the first to see one on the road.

These are all reasons why Los Angeles is an important auto show. And this year's event plays host to more than 20 world debuts.

Old World, New Rides

European cars sell well in Southern California, so Los Angeles is the perfect venue to introduce fresh Euro metal. After much anticipation, Porsche's newest model, the Macan, will debut in LA. This compact crossover is accompanied by the latest generation of 911 Turbo Cabriolet and new turbo versions of the Panamera luxury sedan/hatchback.

A convertible version of BMW's new 4 Series is also vying for attention, along with four new vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, including the GLA250 subcompact crossover.

There's a completely redesigned MINI Cooper and it's being unveiled here. La-La-Land is also first to witness the Range Rover L, a stretched version of the quintessential luxury SUV. But the biggest news may be the launch of the Jaguar F-Type Coupe. The 2014 F-Type roadster has already hit Hollywood's streets; this hard-top version could be just as successful.

The East Comes West

The 2015 Kia K900 luxury full-size sedan should spark a lot of interest. Like sister company Hyundai, Kia is shedding its budget-brand skin to go upmarket.

On the Acura stand is another full-size luxury sedan being introduced to the world: the 2014 RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD that bristles with all of Acura's highest tech. The 2014 Honda Civic Coupe will go on display to the public for the first time, having debuted at the trade-only SEMA event earlier in November.

New models from Toyota and Hyundai are expected to join Subaru's hot WRX and STI and Nissan's hot Juke NISMO RS.

Home Runners

America's domestic manufacturers tend to make Detroit their main event, understandably. But we're still expecting something newsworthy from Ford -- possibly a concept version of the next-generation Edge crossover. Chevrolet, meanwhile, could bring its new Colorado compact pickup. And although it has already debuted elsewhere, the latest Cadillac Escalade SUV can be checked out.

Big Ideas

Concept vehicles include a Nissan NISMO project. NISMO is Nissan's motorsport division, so this could be fun. The Cadillac Elmiraj is also expected, along with Jaguar's C-X17 crossover and BMW's X4, as well as offerings from Volkswagen and Volvo.

The 2013 LA Auto Show is open to the public from November 22 to December 1. Press days begin with the Connected Car Expo -- a look at the growing computerization of personal transportation -- on November 19, with the regular conferences and unveilings taking place on November 20 and 21. AutoTrader.com will be posting comprehensive reports on all the important developments.

What it means to you: Cars, fun and sun ... what's not to love?
