  • 2013 Rogue offered in three trim levels with front-wheel or all-wheel drive
  • Pricing rises by just 1 percent compared with 2012 models
  • Special Edition package adds more features for the same $1,200 price

Nissan announced pricing and equipment changes for the 2013 Rogue, a compact crossover that's available in three trim levels with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Compared with the 2012 model, the pricing for the 2013 Nissan Rogue rises only about 1% across the board. For the 2013 model year, Nissan also changed the equipment offered in a pair of options packages.

The manufacturer's suggested retail prices (MSRP) for the 2013 Rogue rise $240 over the previous model year for each of the three trim levels--S, SV and SV w/ SL package. That's an increase of about 1 percent. The base price is now $22,310 for the Rogue S. The top-of-the-line 2013 Rogue SV w/ SL package and all-wheel drive is priced just under $30,000. All-wheel drive is available on each of the three trims for a $1,300 premium. That amount is unchanged from 2012.

Pricing for the Special Edition options package remains unchanged too, even though more equipment is included for the 2013 model year. On top of 16-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, fog lamps, a backup camera and SiriusXM- and USB-capable audio with a color display and steering wheel controls, the Special Edition package now includes Bluetooth hands-free and 6-speaker sound. Purchased individually, these extras would add $2,700 to the bottom line, but the Special Edition package comes in at $1,200.

For the mid-lineup SV model, the Premium Edition replaces the Premium package for 2013. It's priced higher than the old Premium package, but also includes more equipment, specifically fog lights and Bose audio with seven speakers and a subwoofer. Still included are navigation with a 5-inch touchscreen, automatic climate control, a power sliding moonroof and automatic headlights. The price for the Premium Edition adds $2,550 to the Rogue SV's $24,750 starting MSRP.

The range-topping Rogue SV with SL package gets even more high-end equipment like 18-inch wheels, HID headlights, leather, heated seats up front and Nissan's AroundView monitor that lets the driver see a top-down view of surroundings for easy parking and low-speed maneuvering. The Rogue SV with SL package is priced at $28,650 with front-wheel drive.

The 2013 Nissan Rogue continues to be one of the automaker's best-selling models thanks to its versatility and good fuel economy of up to 28 mpg highway. Shoppers looking for a combination of attractive equipment and value in a compact SUV or crossover should consider the Rogue along with models like the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V or Subaru Forester.

What it means to you: Pricing for the 2013 Rogue barely increases compared with the 2012 model, and the Special Edition package offers appealing equipment upgrades at an excellent value.
