  • Corvette priced from $51,995 with shipping
  • Convertible starts at $56,995; includes automatic top
  • Pricing will rise quickly as drivers add options

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette will start at $51,995 with shipping when it goes on sale later this year. The soft-top Corvette Convertible will start at $56,995. That's the latest from Chevrolet, which recently announced pricing for the all-new 'Vette after revealing the car at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year.

With its $51,995 base price, the all-new seventh-generation Corvette is only $1,400 more expensive than the model it replaces. The Corvette Convertible's base price rises by around $2,400. That's a small increase for a brand-new model -- especially one as radically different as the 2014 Corvette.

Officially called the Corvette Stingray, the sports car's most obvious revisions are on the outside. An all-new body represents a major change over last year's Corvette, with new lines on nearly every surface. Chevrolet made similar updates to the Corvette's cabin, which is redesigned for a more luxurious feel. The upscale interior feels more comparable to Corvette-rival luxury brands such as BMW and Porsche.

But the 2014 Corvette is updated under the skin, as well. It's powered by a new LT1 V8 engine, which makes 450 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. Chevrolet says the Corvette will be good for 0-to-60 runs in under four seconds, whether drivers choose the 7-speed manual or 6-speed paddle-shift automatic.

While the Corvette starts around $52,000, it's unlikely that many units of the iconic sports car will leave dealers at that price. That's because the Corvette offers dozens of tempting options that enhance performance, appearance and comfort. A Z51 high-performance package, for example, adds $2,800 to the base price. Sport-tuned Magnetic Ride Control suspension adds $1,795. And the high-end 3LT trim package with an upscale full leather interior costs over $8,000. Other options include black wheels ($495), red brake calipers ($995), sport seats ($2,495) and a dual-mode exhaust ($1,195).

Still, the Corvette includes a lot of high-end equipment in its base price. Among the sports car's standard features are keyless access with push-button starting, an 8-inch infotainment screen and a rearview camera. The Corvette Convertible has a fully-automatic top that can even be lowered with the car's key fob.

For drivers eagerly awaiting the Corvette's debut -- or those looking forward to seeing it on the road -- the sports car goes on sale this fall.

What it means to you: The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette packs a lot of performance into its $51,995 base price.
