Nissan launched a new interactive website to promote its completely redesigned midsize crossover. The Detour lets users virtually test drive the 2014 Nissan Rogue using a computer, smartphone or tablet. Users can select the start point and destination for a drive and, thanks to technology from Google Maps and Google Street View, see the new Rogue almost anywhere in the world.
Find The Detour at nissanusa.com/the-detour and choose any address to start. Select your home address, for example, and you'll see the new Rogue on the street outside your house or apartment. From there, the Rogue takes off toward its destination to the sounds of the song "Y.A.L.A." by British recording artist and rapper M.I.A. Along the way, the Rogue passes familiar local sites and pauses to give virtual test drivers a chance to explore inside the vehicle.
While the rest of the test drive plays like a movie, the inside-the-vehicle segment allows users to browse at their own pace using a slider bar at the bottom of the screen. A range of features available on the 2014 Nissan Rogue is highlighted. LED daytime running lights, leather-trimmed seats, touchscreen audio, push-button start, automatic climate control and a panoramic sunroof are among the notable features.
At the end of the drive, the Rogue is pictured at the destination point. The Detour then invites users to share a link to the site with friends via Facebook, Twitter or Google+. It also allows a replay or a "featured detour" in one of six U.S. locations, including one in San Francisco and one in South Florida from Key West to Miami.
Nissan also lets The Detour users download "Y.A.L.A." by M.I.A., a parting gift for participating in the virtual test drive. And, of course, the automaker invites users to visit a local Nissan dealership for a real-world test drive of the all-new Rogue.
What it means to you: Interested in test driving the all-new 2014 Nissan Rogue without actually visiting a Nissan dealership? You can start with a virtual test drive using Nissan's The Detour website.
