  • 2014 Nissan Rogue unveiled at Frankfurt Auto Show
  • Rogue boasts new styling, new interior, new third-row seat
  • Goes on sale in November priced from $23,850

Nissan has officially unveiled an all-new Rogue crossover. The automaker showed off the second-generation Rogue at this year's Frankfurt Auto Show, announcing that the model would reach dealers in November with a starting price of $23,850 including destination -- and a newly available third-row seat.

On the outside, the Rogue offers major changes. Dubbed the X-Trail in Europe, the crossover's styling is transformed from today's rounded look to a more grown-up, larger appearance. The Rogue's new lines give the appearance that the crossover is essentially a scaled-down version of Nissan's larger Pathfinder SUV.

The Rogue's interior is also updated. Gone are many of the hard plastics that drew complaints in the outgoing Rogue. Instead, the interior is freshened all around with a grown-up look that complements the new exterior. The most obvious changes include a new steering wheel, a new center stack and horizontal air vents that replace last year's circles.

While the updates to the Rogue's dashboard are big news, the model's biggest interior revision comes in back. The 2014 Nissan Rogue will include an available third-row seat for the first time in the crossover's history. It will be the only compact crossover with a third row after Toyota dropped the feature from its RAV4 for the 2013 model year.

Under the hood, the Rogue offers no big changes. Last year's 175-horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder is still the standard engine. It's hooked to a continuously variable automatic transmission, just like today's Rogue, for an expected 26 miles per gallon city/33 mpg hwy. And also like the current Rogue, the new Rogue will offer S, SV and SL trim levels.

Other updates to the 2014 Rogue relate to new features. Nissan says the model will now offer a long list of safety items, such as the brand's AroundView monitor, a blind spot detection system, a lane-departure warning system and a forward-collision alert system. Other options include a panoramic sunroof, hands-free messaging and automatic climate control.

We expect to know full pricing closer to the Rogue's November 2013 on-sale date.

What it means to you: The Nissan Rogue is growing up, adding more technology and a family-friendly third-row seat.
