2014 Toyota 4Runner Unveiled
- 2014 Toyota 4Runner features revised exterior, interior
- Exterior adds LED lights, updated front fascia
- Interior boasts new gauges and Entune infotainment
Some of the most obvious changes come on the 4Runner's exterior. In front, the truck-based SUV uses a new fascia that Toyota says provides a "more rugged and aggressive appearance." The modified front end includes an updated grille, a new front bumper and new smoked headlights. The 2014 4Runner also adds LED running lights.
Beyond the front end, the 4Runner offers a few other exterior changes. Chief among them are new taillights, which now use LEDs. The 4Runner also touts four new colors -- Super White, Attitude Black Metallic, Barcelona Red Metallic and Nautical Blue Metallic -- along with updated wheel designs for all models. Finally, the 4Runner loses its mast antenna for a more common in-glass unit.
Inside, the 4Runner is also updated. While interior revisions aren't as substantial, they include new Optitron gauges and redesigned climate controls. The center console includes a new stereo head unit, as well, to incorporate Toyota's Entune infotainment system. Toyota's base-level Entune system, which boasts an AM/FM stereo, CD player, SiriusXM satellite radio and USB port, is standard. The upscale 4Runner Limited adds Entune Premium, which includes a JBL audio system with navigation.
Beyond its exterior and interior revisions, the 4Runner is little changed. The SUV carries over its 4.0-liter V6, which makes 270 horsepower. A 5-speed automatic is still standard. And the 4Runner still offers the same three trim levels: a base-level SR5, an upscale Limited and the off-road-oriented Trail. Third-row seating is optional in SR5 and Limited models.
Toyota has not yet announced pricing for the 2014 4Runner, and we don't expect it to change much from the 2013 model. Today's 4Runner SR5 starts around $32,000 with shipping, while the Limited is closer to $40,000. Four-wheel drive adds around $2,000, while the Trail -- which features standard 4-wheel drive -- starts around $38,000. The 2014 4Runner is expected to reach dealers later this summer.
What it means to you: Following a 2010 redesign, the 2014 Toyota 4Runner boasts an updated interior and exterior to stay current.
