2015 Acura TLX: New York Auto Show
What Is It?
The 2015 Acura TLX is an entry-level luxury sedan that will replace Acura's popular TL and TSX sedans. Shown in concept form at this year's Chicago Auto Show, the production-ready 2015 TLX has been officially unveiled in New York.
On the outside, the TLX is unmistakably Acura. LED headlights mimic those on the brand's popular MDX crossover, while a silver-colored grille crossbar resembles the front end of other recent Acura models, including the TL, the TSX and the brand's larger RLX sedan. In back, the TLX uses a more generic look, though it shares its window line with the smaller, Honda Civic-based Acura ILX.
Under the hood, the TLX touts two available engines. Entry-level models will use a 206-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder, which will offer 182 lb-ft of torque and a standard 8-speed automatic transmission. Drivers looking for more power will want to upgrade to the brand's 290-hp 3.5-liter V6, which boasts a 9-speed automatic and 267 lb-ft of torque. Like the TL and TSX, the TLX will be front-wheel-drive, though Acura says all-wheel drive will be available as an option.
Beyond its styling and powertrains, the TLX also offers several new features. For one, there's newly available start/stop technology, designed to improve the sedan's gas mileage. The car also boasts Siri Eyes Free, a system that will help iPhone users carry out tasks while behind the wheel.
We expect pricing to start somewhere between the base price of the TSX ($31,500 with shipping) and the TL ($37,000 with shipping).
When Can You Get It?
Add It to Your Shopping List Because...
Although Acura's sedans are rarely the most exciting on the market, they traditionally offer a nearly unbeatable combination of equipment, durability and attractive pricing. For 2015, Acura's goal is to make the TLX more fun to drive, placing it in contention with rivals such as the Cadillac ATS and Infiniti Q50. If they succeed, we think the 2015 Acura TLX could be a worthy addition to your shopping list. Even if the TLX doesn't boast the driving prowess of its rivals, we think it will still offer Acura's usual combination of desirable equipment and strong reliability for a good price.
