2015 Chevrolet Colorado Teased Ahead of LA Debut
- Chevrolet bringing new Colorado pickup to LA
- Midsize Colorado will compete with the Frontier and Tacoma
- Other details about upcoming Colorado not yet known
Chevrolet will bring the midsize pickup back to its lineup at this year's Los Angeles Auto Show. The automaker recently announced it would use the LA show to reveal an all-new 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, which will slot below the Silverado in the brand's lineup.
While Chevrolet hasn't announced much in the way of details about its upcoming Colorado, the brand did show a teaser photo ahead of the pickup's debut. It shows the truck parked next to the Silverado and Silverado HD, but hidden under a cover. While this doesn't provide any clues about what the truck will look like, it gives us an idea about its size.
And how big will the Colorado be? Smaller than the Silverado, but not by much, according to the photo. It will likely be similar in size to the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier, which are the only remaining midsize pickups on today's market. That means we expect it to be slightly larger than the outgoing Colorado.
Of course, we also expect it to be more powerful. In the outgoing Colorado's last year, it used a 185-horsepower 4-cylinder engine and a 240-hp 5-cylinder. The new model will likely improve on those numbers while also delivering better gas mileage. We're not sure if the latest Colorado will offer a V8, as the old Colorado did in its final model years, since neither the Tacoma nor the Frontier boast V8 power.
Other details about the upcoming Colorado are largely unknown. We know General Motors plans to build the truck in the United States -- at an assembly plant in Wentzville, Mo. And we know there will be a mechanical twin, dubbed the GMC Canyon, just as there has been in the past. Beyond that, information about styling, features and pricing will have to wait until the truck's unveiling in LA later this week.
What it means to you: If you're looking for a midsize truck and you don't mind waiting a few months, you might want to check out the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado.
