ADDITIONAL MODEL INFORMATION
2014 Chevrolet Tahoe

  • All-new 2015 Tahoe includes standard features to deter theft
  • Additional Theft Protection package offered as option
  • New model arrives first quarter of 2014

The redesigned 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe that goes on sale soon will include new standard security features and an optional theft-deterrence package to further thwart would-be thieves. Chevy completely redesigned its full-size SUV and included some of the features that helped lower theft rates for the Cadillac Escalade. Those include a steering column lock and more secure keys and door locks.

Full-size SUVs and pickups dominate the top 10 vehicles on the Highway Loss Data Institute's (HLDI) list of vehicles with the highest theft rates. In 2010, the Cadillac Escalade claimed the unwelcome top position. But new security measures helped that luxury SUV drop to sixth place in 2013. The Chevrolet Tahoe wasn't among the top 10 in 2010 but was tenth on HLDI's 2013 list.

Standard security features for the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe help to prevent thieves from entering the vehicle and pushing or towing it away. New side-cut keys and corresponding locks are harder to pick, and shields inside the door keep thieves from using tools to break in. The new Tahoe also has a fold-down third-row seat that's bolted into the vehicle instead of the removable third-row in the 2014 Tahoe. Hidden compartments in the 2015 Tahoe help drivers and passengers stow valuables out of sight.

For buyers who choose the mid-range and top-trim LT and LTZ models, a Theft Protection package is now available as an option. It includes sensors that detect glass breakage and motion inside the vehicle and a tilt sensor, which sounds an alarm if the vehicle is picked up to be towed.

Like its predecessor, the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe comes standard with Chevy's OnStar system, which can help police track a stolen vehicle.

Drivers can take measures such as hiding valuables, parking in a secure and well-lit area and locking doors to deter thieves. For those who need more security, the optional Theft Protection package may prove valuable. The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe arrives in dealers' showrooms in the first quarter of 2014.

What it means to you: No driver wants to find a break-in or a stolen vehicle. New security measures for the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe are aimed at thwarting would-be thieves.
