2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban and GMC Yukon Revealed
- GM revealed new Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon
- Full-size SUVs boast new styling, new interior, new engines
- Expected to go on sale early next year
General Motors has officially unveiled its all-new crop of full-size SUVs. Based on the new GM full-size pickups, the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon have been officially revealed online ahead of their debuts early next year.
On the outside, the SUVs are substantially updated -- a surprise, since GM's full-size pickups look similar to the outgoing models. While the pickups don't boast major changes, the Tahoe, Suburban and Yukon all include entirely new grilles, side profiles, wheels and details such as headlights and mirrors.
The full-size SUVs are also completely new inside. A revised cabin provides an upscale feel thanks to new materials and a stylish dashboard. While the column shifter and wide center console remain, the center control stack now flows into the console without a gap -- meaning both the driver and front passenger get a more cockpit-like feel.
Under the hood, all Tahoe and Suburban models use the same powerplant: a new 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V8. That engine also powers the Yukon and extended-length Yukon XL, though the upscale Yukon Denali models receive a new 420-hp 6.2-liter V8. With new, more advanced engines and increasingly aerodynamic styling, General Motors says the Tahoe and Yukon will be more fuel efficient than ever before.
Beyond the new styling and engines, several new features are also available. Many of these features are safety items, such as forward collision alert, front park assist, lane-change assist, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert and lane-departure warning. All are welcome on the large SUVs, which are often used to haul families and occasionally tow large items.
General Motors has not yet announced a full list of features for the large SUVs -- and the automaker has yet to reveal pricing. But we expect to learn more closer to the SUV models' on-sale date, which is scheduled for early 2014.
What it means to you: The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon are highly important vehicles for GM, as they've remained highly popular even while many drivers have switched to smaller SUVs and crossovers.
