ADDITIONAL MODEL INFORMATION
2014 Chrysler 200

author photo by Nick Palermo January 2014
  • Completely redesigned Chrysler midsize sedan
  • Starting price of $21,700
  • Priced lower than key competitors

Chrysler debuted its redesigned midsize sedan recently at the Detroit Auto Show and announced a lower price when the model goes on sale. The 2015 Chrysler 200, which is expected to arrive in dealer showrooms this spring, is priced starting at $21,700 -- about $100 less than the starting manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) for the 2014 Chrysler 200.

In addition to a lower price, the new 200 also includes more standard features than the outgoing version. A new, 9-speed automatic transmission replaces the dated 4-speed auto in the 2014 200, improving fuel economy significantly. A rotary gear selector mounted on the center console, similar to ones used by Jaguar, replaces the shift lever and improves interior storage space.

Like the 2014 model, the redesigned 2015 Chrysler 200 comes standard with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine or an optional 3.6-liter V6. Both motors, however, are more powerful for the 2015 model year. The base Tigershark 4-cylinder now makes 184 horsepower, while output from the Pentastar V6 is up 12 hp to 295 hp.

Chrysler will offer the 2015 200 in four trim levels: the base LX along with the Limited, S and top-of-the-range C. Priced at $23,255, the 200 Limited adds aluminum wheels, chrome exterior accents and Uconnect touchscreen audio with six speakers. For $24,495, the 200S uses the more powerful V6 engine and includes heated, power-folding side mirrors, power driver's seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, sport suspension and a sport mode for the automatic transmission. Finally, the 200C adds features such as leather, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control and a backup camera. The top-trim 200C starts at $25,995.

Both the 2015 200S and 200C offer all-wheel drive, a first for the model and an option available on just a few of the 200's midsize sedan competitors. Compared to rivals, the 2015 Chrysler 200 is priced right. Its starting MSRP is about $725 less than that of the best-selling Toyota Camry and at least $1,000 less than the base price of the Ford Fusion or Chevrolet Malibu.

What it means to you: If you're shopping for midsize sedans and can wait a few months, consider the completely redesigned 2015 Chrysler 200. Its strengths include a low starting price, a standard 9-speed automatic transmission and available all-wheel drive.
