2015 Dodge Challenger: New York Auto Show
What Is It?
The 2015 Dodge Challenger is a retro-themed sports coupe that offers a unique, muscular look and some high-performance powertrains. It's updated for the latest model year, boasting new styling cues, new features and two new high-performance trim levels.
On the outside, changes to the latest Challenger are immediately evident in its new LED taillights and brake lights. Also included are revised front and rear bumpers, a larger power bulge in the hood and a retro-inspired split grille.
Inside, the Challenger offers a long list of newly available features. Many of them are safety items, including a blind spot monitoring system, a forward-collision warning system and rear cross-path detection to aid drivers in backing out of parking spots. Also included are a newly available adaptive cruise control system and an available 8.4-inch center-mounted touchscreen featuring Chrysler's Uconnect infotainment technology.
Other updates for 2015 primarily relate to two new high-performance option packages. Dubbed the Scat Pack and the Shaker, both offer the Challenger's monstrous 485-horsepower 6.4-liter V8, though Shaker models can also be ordered with the brand's 5.7-liter HEMI V8. Scat Pack models offer larger wheels and brakes, while the Shaker boasts upgraded suspension and sport seats. In both cases, the trim levels are named for high-performance option packages from earlier Challenger models in the 1960s and 1970s.
We don't expect a substantial price bump from the Challenger's current MSRP of around $27,500, but we do expect Scat Pack and Shaker models to carry a premium over regular HEMI and SRT Challenger models.
When Can You Get It?
Add It to Your Shopping List Because...
The 2015 Dodge Challenger is popular for combining expressive retro styling with modern touches, and that's especially true with the newly updated 2015 model. Now, shoppers interested in the latest infotainment and safety technology can get that equipment in a Challenger, and so too can drivers who want an eye-grabbing limited-edition performance package. The Challenger remains an excellent muscle-car contender, though we wouldn't mind seeing a convertible.
Other Cars to Consider
Chevrolet Camaro -- The Chevrolet Camaro is a retro-styled muscle car offered in coupe or convertible variants. The Camaro also touts two high-performance special editions with much more power than any Challenger, though they're far more expensive, too.
Dodge Charger -- Also updated for the 2015 model year, the Charger is essentially a Challenger with four doors. Unfortunately, it doesn't offer quite the same unique retro styling, but for shoppers interested in all the muscle with more practicality, the Charger is a good alternative.
Ford Mustang -- The Ford Mustang also boasts retro-themed styling and available V8 power, and it offers a convertible for shoppers who want to enjoy some top-down driving. But the Mustang doesn't offer the bold, look-at-me styling of the Challenger.
