2014 Dodge Charger

What Is It?

The Dodge Charger is a rear- or all-wheel-drive full-size sedan that boasts V6 or V8 power. On sale since 2005, the Charger received a major update for the 2011 model year, and now it's getting revised again for 2015.

The biggest changes come to the sedan's exterior. That's where the 2015 Dodge Charger features a totally new front end designed to mimic several other Dodge models. There are also LED light strips and LED running lights, along with a blacked-out grille. Changes to the rear aren't as extensive, as the Charger keeps its "race-track" taillights, but there are still noticeable updates to the sedan's trunk and bumper.

Inside, the Charger adds a new 7-inch display screen in the gauge cluster. It also boasts a new steering wheel and a long list of newly available safety features, ranging from forward-collision alert to lane-departure warning and rear cross-traffic alert to help drivers back out of parking spaces. Adaptive cruise control is also newly available on the 2015 Charger.

Under the hood, the 2015 Dodge Charger is largely similar to the current model. While there's a newly standard 8-speed automatic transmission across the board, the sedan's engine lineup remains unchanged. There's a 292-horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 in entry-level Charger models, while a 370-hp HEMI V8 is available for drivers who want more muscle.

How Much?

Dodge hasn't announced pricing, but we think the 2015 Charger will start close to today's base price of around $28,000 with shipping.

When Can You Get It?

Fall 2014

Add It to Your Shopping List Because...

The Charger is well-known for delivering a lot of bang for your buck, given its reasonably upscale interior, extensive standard equipment and powerful engines. With updates to the 2015 model, the Charger gains in value thanks to more modern styling touches and a long list of newly available safety features.

Other Cars to Consider

Chevrolet SS -- The Chevrolet SS may not have the Charger's bold styling, but it certainly has the power. Starting around $44,000, the SS boasts a standard 415-hp V8 and a long list of upscale equipment.

Chrysler 300 -- Think of the Chrysler 300 as a slightly more upscale Charger, and you won't be far off. While they're very similar under the skin, the 300 boasts a more luxurious interior and styling that's focused less on expressiveness and more on luxury.

Dodge Challenger -- Like the Charger's muscle but don't need the space? Consider the Dodge Challenger, which offers the same powertrains in an eye-grabbing, retro-themed 2-seat design.

Ford Taurus -- Ford's full-size Taurus sedan uses a front-wheel-drive chassis, though it offers available all-wheel drive. It doesn't have an available V8, though there's an optional turbocharged V6. Still, it's a close competitor for the Charger due to interior size, pricing and equipment.
