Ford will highlight new technology features for its redesigned Mustang at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The annual expo shows off not only the latest in mobile devices, gaming consoles and computing, but also new automotive technologies. The 2015 Ford Mustang on display at the January show includes a range of technologies not previously offered on Ford's iconic coupe and convertible.

Among them are driver-assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, which detects the distance of a vehicle ahead and adjusts speed accordingly. Forward-collision warning is also new for the Mustang. When the system senses a potential crash, it warns the driver and readies the braking system for a quick stop.

Forward-collision warning is among the federal safety ratings list of recommended safety technologies for new vehicles. A backup camera is also on the list, and the 2015 Ford Mustang will include that safety feature as standard equipment.

Another driver-assistance feature that's new to the Mustang is blind spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert. It senses vehicles traveling in the Mustang's blind spot or crossing behind the car when pulling out of a parking space or driveway.

Technology features for the new 2015 Ford Mustang coupe and convertible aren't limited to safety and driver assistance. Some are more geared toward the Mustang's performance character. An available drive mode offers four options: normal, snow/wet, sport and track. It adjusts characteristics such as steering weight, throttle response and stability control settings.

Serious performance drivers can further fine-tune both the steering and stability control programs individually. For track days, Ford's Track Apps allow the driver to monitor vehicle dynamics such as acceleration, braking and handling.

Of course, Ford will offer its SYNC infotainment system and MyFord Touch with navigation on the new Mustang, and the automaker says both are updated for better usability. A proximity key and push-button start will be offered for the first time on the model, too.

The Ford Mustang may be known as a driver's car for those who are passionate about performance, and it certainly boasts a track record to back that reputation. But the 2015 Ford Mustang must appeal to a wider audience to achieve real success. These new technology features will help the redesigned model to appeal to both enthusiasts and those who want comfort, convenience and safety along with a sporty design.

What it means to you: Newly available technologies for the 2015 Ford Mustang include safety and convenience features such as adaptive cruise, collision warning, a proximity key with push-button start and Ford's latest SYNC infotainment updates.
