  • 2015 Hyundai Sonata shown ahead of New York debut
  • Sonata offers updated interior and exterior styling
  • Hyundai will reveal more details at the New York Auto Show in April

Hyundai has shown an updated version of its midsize Sonata sedan ahead of the car's official debut at the New York Auto Show in April. While Hyundai hasn't announced many details about the 2015 Sonata, the brand's images give us a good idea about what to expect from the car's new look.

On the outside, the latest Sonata keeps largely the same profile as the current model, though many details are dramatically updated. That includes new headlights and taillights, along with totally new lines that offer a simpler, cleaner look than today's model. The biggest changes come to the sedan's front end, which trades an aggressive, busy look for a more basic design.

The 2015 Sonata also includes many updates to its interior. The dashboard, air vents and center control stack have all been redesigned, while the steering wheel and gauge cluster are also completely new. Also new is a thin-film-transistor screen mounted between the gauges to provide drivers with vehicle information and other relevant data.

Beyond the new look, we don't know too much about the new Sonata. Hyundai has said that the midsize sedan uses more high-strength steel than the last model, giving it a more rigid feel, which is essentially a given on any automotive update. We also expect that Hyundai will soon reveal an updated Sonata Hybrid, which will offer a fuel-efficient 4-cylinder and include its own unique take on the Sonata's latest look.

We expect to find out more details about the Sonata at this year's New York Auto Show, which takes place in April. There, Hyundai will likely announce the sedan's trim levels and technical specs, though we wouldn't be surprised if much remains the same. In addition to the hybrid model, the Sonata is also offered with two gas-powered 4-cylinders: a 190-horsepower version, and a turbocharged model that makes a muscular 274 hp.

What it means to you: The 2015 Hyundai Sonata offers a new look to help it stay current in the competitive midsize sedan world.
