2014 Lincoln Navigator

What Is It?

Lincoln has heavily revised the full-size Navigator luxury SUV for the new model year. The 2015 Lincoln Navigator boasts new styling, new features and a new engine. Under the skin, however, it's still the same basic Navigator that came out in 2007.

On the outside, changes are primarily limited to the front and rear ends. In front, the Navigator adds Lincoln's signature grille design, which is split into two portions with a large Lincoln emblem in the middle. The headlights also add LED running lights. In back, the Navigator boasts a large light bar that goes across the SUV's rear end.

Maybe the biggest change is under the 2015 Navigator's hood. Last year's V8 is gone, replaced by the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 that's proven so popular in various Ford SUVs and trucks. The engine makes 370 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque, which falls well short of the new Cadillac Escalade's 420 hp and 460 lb-ft. But Lincoln says the Navigator can tow more: 9,000 pounds to the Escalade's 8,200.

Beyond the styling upgrades and the new engine, the Navigator boasts some new technology. There's a new Drive Control system, which offers Sport, Comfort and Normal modes. Lincoln's MyLincoln Touch system is now standard with a center-mounted touchscreen display. And 20-inch wheels replace last year's 18s as standard equipment.

How Much?

Pricing has not yet been announced, though we wouldn't expect a huge jump over today's base price of $57,000 with shipping.

When Can You Get It?

Fall 2014

Add It to Your Shopping List Because…

The Navigator offers bold styling and lots of luxury. With its new EcoBoost V6 engine, it also combines excellent power with much-improved fuel economy. While we still prefer the Escalade, the 2015 Lincoln Navigator certainly makes an excellent case for itself in the contentious world of the full-size luxury SUV.

Other Cars to Consider

Cadillac Escalade -- While the Navigator is face-lifted for 2015, the Escalade is all new. It offers new styling, more power than the Navigator and a better-known nameplate. But prices will likely be high in the Escalade's first year until demand starts to taper.

Infiniti QX80 -- The Infiniti QX56 is renamed QX80 for the 2014 model year. It boasts bold styling, a 400-hp V8, a long list of technology and a base price that rivals the Navigator's.

Range Rover Sport -- The Range Rover Sport is all-new for 2014. It's more expensive than the Navigator, but it boasts high luxury, 3-row seating and a desirable brand name.

Used Range Rover -- Depreciation is on your side when it comes to Land Rover's flagship SUV. Full-size Range Rover models lose value quickly, which places certified pre-owned models well within reach of a Navigator shopper. You won't get a third row, but you'll have tremendous off-road capability and a "king-of-the-road" driving experience.
