The 2015 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG 4Matic Coupe debuts at the upcoming 2014 New York Auto Show, happening in mid-April. But we have details and images to share right now.

Considering the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S550 Coupe is a sleek 2-door version of the company's flagship luxury sedan -- already brimming with gadgets and grandeur -- think of this AMG variant as the absolute pinnacle. Anything wearing a 3-pointed star on its nose and "AMG" initials on its tail is a high-performance Benz. Every AMG engine is assembled by one technician; they each have a plaque bearing their maker's signature. Under the S63's long hood is a twin-turbo, 5.5-liter V8.

While the regular S550 Coupe is endowed with 449 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, the S63 Coupe's output is a mighty 577 hp and 664 lb-ft. Quite enough to send this 4,400-lb beast sprinting from standstill to 60 miles per hour in about 3.9 seconds before hitting a top speed of 186 miles per hour.

That considerable muscle goes through a 7-speed automatic transmission (with shift paddles) and then to an all-wheel-drive system -- the "4Matic" part of the name. Tuning specialists in the AMG division look at everything to help make the cars faster and handle better. Their work on the 4Matic setup has transformed what is a capable and safe way of maximizing traction and grip in other Benz vehicles into something almost telepathic, so quickly and effectively does it send power to the wheel -- or wheels -- that can use it best.

There's no thrill-killing understeer when pushing through corners, no wheel-slipping failures to attain grip. It just does what the driver wants it to -- almost before the driver knows it. That's how it behaves in other 4Matic-equipped AMG cars, so there's every reason to have similarly high expectations when the S63 Coupe goes on sale in the fall.

In normal driving conditions, torque is split 33/67 percent between the front and rear axle, giving a predominantly rear-drive feel to the chassis. Naturally, the adaptive air suspension has also been re-tuned to be more canyon-carver than boulevard-cruiser, but the selectable settings will have a "Comfort" button somewhere.

All-wheel drive is just one of the many standard features. Add a throaty sport exhaust, panoramic roof, pedestrian detection, parking assistance, a high-resolution TFT color instrument cluster, plus leather and whatever trim (metal, carbon fiber) the customer's heart desires. Among the ways to spend extra money are options such as a head-up display, heated windshield, an even swisher sound system and a ceramic, weight-optimized, fade-resistant, high-performance braking system. You might also like Swarovski crystals in the headlights.

Ah yes, money. Official pricing is still a ways off, but the model being replaced by the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG 4Matic Coupe, the 2014 CL63 AMG, starts at $154,600.

What it means to you: We can all appreciate power and prettiness, even if we can't afford it ourselves.
