What Is It?

The all-new 2015 Nissan Murano replaces Nissan's current Murano crossover. Always well-known for its unusual styling, the latest Murano is no different, though it combines its bold new look with a long list of new technologies and a powerful, proven engine and transmission.

The biggest news for the new Murano comes to the exterior. While it could easily be mistaken for Nissan's smaller Rogue crossover in front, the Murano's rear view offers an unusual D-pillar that's painted black to give the roof a floating appearance. Also included are some sharp lines down the Murano's side and a set of oddly shaped taillights that help the crossover stand out.

The Murano is also totally new inside, and the revised cabin is a big improvement over the outgoing model's interior. Not only is the layout more modern, but switches and buttons look far superior to the current model's offerings. We're also impressed with the large center touchscreen and the LCD display in the gauge cluster.

Beyond its newly updated exterior and interior, the Murano also boasts an impressive list of new features and equipment. A new cross-traffic alert system helps to detect an approaching vehicle when backing out of a parking space, for instance, while the latest power sunroof is considerably larger than the last one. Nissan also touts a redesigned center console that the brand says will improve communication with rear passengers.

How Much?

Nissan hasn't announced pricing, but we wouldn't expect a big increase over today's base price of around $29,500 with shipping.

When Can You Get It?

Late 2014

Add It to Your Shopping List Because...

The 2015 Nissan Murano brings a sense of style to the midsize crossover segment that isn't seen in most other automakers' offerings. While the Murano isn't known for its practicality (there's no third-row seating, for example) and its powertrain is largely unchanged from last year's 260-horsepower 3.5-liter V6, the latest Murano's look will appeal to any shopper who's bored with traditional midsize SUVs and crossovers.

Other Cars to Consider

Chevrolet Equinox -- Like the Murano, the Equinox is only offered with 2-row seating. Unlike the Murano, the Equinox has traditional crossover styling. Both models emphasize value, with each offering a long list of desirable features for a reasonable price.

Ford Edge -- Ford's aging Edge crossover is similar to the Murano in many ways, with 2-row seating and a powerful standard V6. The Edge's styling isn't as expressive as the Murano's, but we think you can get a better deal on the Ford.

Nissan Rogue -- Nissan's own Rogue crossover offers many of the Murano's tech features for less money. The Rogue is smaller and less powerful than the Murano, but it's also cheaper and available with a third-row seat.

Used Nissan Pathfinder -- If you like the Murano's styling but need more space, consider the larger Nissan Pathfinder. With 3-row seating, the larger Nissan offers more room for families, and while styling isn't quite as bold as the Murano's, there's a clear family resemblance. Pricing is higher, however, so you may have to consider a used model.
