2015 Subaru Impreza WRX Teased Ahead of LA Debut
- Subaru Impreza WRX teased ahead of LA Auto Show
- Photo shows usual WRX goodies, including hood scoop
- We'll know more details at the show
Subaru has officially released the first teaser image of its next-generation Impreza WRX. The photo, which shows the sporty compact's front end, comes before the WRX's official debut at this year's Los Angeles Auto Show.
While the photo doesn't show much, it gives us a few clues about what to expect from the next WRX. There will be a turbocharged engine, identified by the huge hood scoop to help suck in air. There will be xenon headlights, a dark grille, fog lights and LED running lights. And there will be dark wheels to give the car a sporty look.
Unfortunately, we don't know much beyond that. We expect power to be around 265 horsepower -- the same output as the current model. We also expect standard all-wheel drive, a choice of manual or automatic transmissions and sport suspension.
In terms of body style, we don't know what to expect. Subaru's front-only photo is likely a strategic decision to get WRX fans excited. The photo keeps us guessing as to whether Subaru will reveal a sedan, a hatchback or both. The current WRX is offered in sedan or hatchback guise.
We're also not sure when we'll see an updated Impreza WRX STI. The current WRX STI comes in a similar package as the WRX but offers an extra 40 hp. It also boasts a limited slip differential, upgraded brakes and other go-fast accessories. Traditionally, Subaru waits one or two model years before releasing a new WRX STI.
