  • Electric 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf on sale in November, priced from $36,300
  • e-Golf to only be offered in states that follow California emissions requirements
  • Range is between 70 and 90 miles; comes standard with 7.2-kW charger

A fully electric Volkswagen Golf is going on sale later this year. That's the latest from Volkswagen, which recently announced that the all-new e-Golf will reach dealers in November, with prices starting from around $36,300 with shipping.

According to Volkswagen, the e-Golf will initially go on sale in just 10 U.S. states -- California and a select handful of other states that follow California's strict emissions requirements. That's a shame for EV fans in other states, since the e-Golf appears to offer a few enticing features designed to sway buyers away from competitors such as the Nissan LEAF and Ford Focus Electric.

One of those features is an impressive 7.2-kW on-board charger -- an excellent upgrade from the LEAF's standard 3.6-kW charger or its available 6.6-kW unit. The e-Golf also offers more power than the LEAF (115 horsepower vs. 107 hp), more torque (199 lb-ft vs. 187 lb-ft) and standard fast-charging capability.

Of course, most drivers will be more concerned with range than hp or torque, and to that end, we're not yet sure what the e-Golf will offer. While Volkswagen says the car will return "an average range between 70 and 90 miles," it'll have a difficult battle to beat the Leaf's impressive Environmental Protection Agency-rated range of 84 miles between charges.

We expect to learn more about the e-Golf as its November on-sale date draws nearer.

What it means to you: The 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf combines a fully electric experience with Volkswagen's popular Golf hatchback.
