ADDITIONAL MODEL INFORMATION
2013 Buick Encore

  • Encore is a new compact crossover for the 2013 model year.
  • Pricing starts at $24,950 including destination charge.
  • Impressive standard features included; swank extras available.

Buick is on a bit of a roll, no pun intended. The automaker offers some compelling choices in the sedan and large crossover categories with vehicles that are nicely equipped and priced competitively. Its latest new model appears to be well positioned to continue that trend. The 2013 Buick Encore, a compact, 5-passenger crossover, includes an impressive list of standard features and an equally impressive price tag. Buick announced an MSRP under $25,000.

More precisely, the base model Encore is priced at $24,950 including a $750 destination charge. That's the most affordable of the four trim levels, which also include the Convenience Group, Leather Group and Premium Group. But the base Encore is not exactly stripped down. Buyers of the most affordable model get the upscale look of 18-inch aluminum wheels plus features including display audio, IntelliLink connectivity, a backup camera and active noise cancellation, which is usually found only in pricey, luxury vehicles.

The Encore should prove affordable to operate, too, thanks in part to a turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. With front-wheel drive, the Encore is EPA-rated at 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. All-wheel drive is a $1,500 option available on all four trims. Its fuel efficiency has not yet been rated by EPA.

Moving up the lineup from the base model to the Encore with the Convenience Group adds dual-zone climate control, remote start, fog lights and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Pricing with the Convenience package starts at $25,760.

On top of leather upholstery, the Encore with Leather Group includes heated front seats and steering wheel; a power passenger's seat; and memory functions for the driver's seat. It starts at $27,460.

Priced at $28,940, the top-trim Premium Group model gets driver assistance features, upgraded sound and some practical touches. Front and rear parking sensors; forward collision warning; rain-sensing wipers; a 7-speaker Bose audio system with a subwoofer; and a cargo net and cargo mat are all included.

Stand-alone options include a $795 navigation system and an $800 sunroof, both of which are available on all but base model Encores.

The growing popularity of crossover vehicles has resulted in wide array of choices from a range of automakers. Although the 2013 Buick Encore arrives in a competitive segment with some strong contenders, its generous standard equipment, upscale look, relatively good fuel economy and attractive base price make it worth a look for any shopper considering a small crossover.

What it means to you: Buick's newest model is the 5-passenger Encore compact crossover. It comes well equipped for under $25,000 or fully loaded with leather, premium audio, navigation, a sunroof and all-wheel drive for around $33,000.
