  • New Kia minivan teased ahead of New York Auto Show
  • The van will replace today's Kia Sedona, which is the oldest minivan design
  • The new van will offer a complete overhaul but may keep the Sedona name

Kia has teased an all-new minivan scheduled to make its debut at this year's New York Auto Show. Expected to be called the 2015 Kia Sedona, the new van will replace today's Sedona, which offers the oldest design of any current minivan.

While Kia hasn't released many details about the upcoming minivan, its teaser image shows us what to expect from the van's exterior styling. Most importantly, the next Sedona will boast bolder styling than the current model, offering a long hood, LED accent lighting and an aggressive front bumper. The van also looks like it has a lower profile than the current Sedona, giving it a sporty look.

Although Kia didn't release a teaser photo of the van's interior, we also expect that the next Sedona will include drastic updates to its cabin. For one, we think Kia will add a large touchscreen to the van's center console to house the brand's UVO infotainment system. The screen will also likely display images from the Sedona's backup camera, which are currently shown in the van's rearview mirror.

Beyond a touchscreen, we expect the 2015 Sedona to offer several other features that the current model lacks. These new features could include a rear-seat entertainment system -- a must for many families on the go -- and more modern safety equipment, such as a blind spot monitoring system. We also think that the latest Sedona will finally offer a second-row bench seat option, like most competitors.

For minivan shoppers, the new Sedona can't come fast enough. The minivan segment only has several entrants, and today's Sedona, released for the 2006 model year, is the oldest by far. A new design from Kia will give shoppers another minivan to consider besides mainstays such as the Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna and Dodge Grand Caravan.

Check back for more updates on the upcoming Kia minivan, as we'll have more information when the model is revealed later this month in New York.

What it means to you: Kia's next-generation minivan is expected to give family-car shoppers a new alternative to minivan mainstays.
