2011 Ford Mustang

An automotive-related non-profit organization will benefit from the upcoming sale of a 1969 Ford Mustang donated by AutoTrader Classics. Billed as the nation's leading online resource for car collectors, the site donated the Mustang to be rebuilt and sold, with proceeds going to the Alliance of Auto Artisans.

The Missouri-based Alliance of Auto Artisans is a unique, little-known non-profit dedicated to educating students on techniques used to rebuild and restore classic cars. The group offers both hands-on and classroom instruction and focuses on five specific skill sets: metal working and welding, body and paint work, mechanical skills, electrical skills, and verbal and communication skills.

To increase interest in the project and raise awareness of the Alliance, Speed TV will air an episode of its popular show "Hot Rod Television" dedicated solely to rebuilding the Mustang. After the show's September 24 debut, the Mustang will be offered for sale on AutoTrader Classics in its newly-rebuilt and fully turn-key form, ready for a new owner's enjoyment.

Technicians who successfully graduate from the Alliance often go on to work in classic automotive restoration shops like Missouri-based Mustang specialist Gateway Classic Mustang, who was heavily involved with rebuilding the car. Two lucky students from the non-profit helped professional technicians from Gateway rebuild the donated car, which involved stripping it down to an almost unrecognizable frame before beginning a full restoration process.

"At AutoTrader Classics, we know how important it is to pass on the love of classic cars to the next generation, which is why we chose to partner with Hot Rod TV and Gateway Classic Mustang for this project," said Marcus Dame, the site's director. "The Alliance of Auto Artisans' student mentoring program is a great way to reach out to the next generation of hot rodders, and by donating the Mustang and the subsequent proceeds of its sale to the organization, we are hoping to make a real impact on future classic car enthusiasts and builders."

Featuring a high-performance 5.0-liter V8, a custom-made blue paint job designed by Dupont Automotive Coatings and a five-speed manual transmission, the Mustang is available now on AutoTrader Classics for $170,000.
