BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe Detailed Ahead of Geneva
- Coupelike styling with four doors
- 4-cylinder 428i and 6-cylinder 435i variants
- Available all-wheel drive
BMW announced details of the latest addition to its 4 Series lineup ahead of the new model's debut at the Geneva Auto Show. The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe follows the design concept of the already available 6 Series Gran Coupe, which blends coupelike styling with the practicality of four doors. BMW will offer two engine choices and all-wheel drive when the 2015 model reaches U.S. showrooms later this year.
With a starting price of $41,225 including destination charge, the 428i Gran Coupe is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 240 horsepower. For a $2,000 premium, buyers can opt for the all-wheel-drive 428i xDrive Gran Coupe. Priced at $46,725, the rear-wheel-drive 435i Gran Coupe is equipped with a more powerful 6-cylinder engine. The turbocharged motor makes 300 hp.
Both the 428i and 435i Gran Coupe models use a standard 8-speed automatic transmission and, to improve efficiency in stop-and-go traffic, include an automatic start-stop function. Official fuel economy figures are not yet available, but BMW says the Gran Coupe models should match their 2-door 4 Series counterparts at 23 miles per gallon in the city and 35 mpg on the highway for the 428i and 22 mpg city/32 mpg hwy for the 435i.
The 2015 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe will be available in three trim levels: Sport, Luxury and M Sport. For Sport versions, exterior trim uses a high-gloss black finish to create a high-performance look. Inside, contrasting red stitching and red trim rings around the instruments complement the look. Luxury versions wear chrome exterior trim and, inside, chrome accents and leather seats. Finally, the M Sport includes revised exterior styling courtesy of an aerodynamics kit along with M door sills and a leather-wrapped M steering wheel.
Technology offered on the new Gran Coupe includes BMW ConnectedDrive infotainment, navigation, a head-up display and driver assistance features such as collision warning, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and lane departure warning.
The 2015 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe arrives in dealer showrooms early this summer. After its March debut at the Geneva Auto Show, the 4 Series makes its U.S. auto show debut in April in New York.
What it means to you: The BMW 4 Series Coupe offers luxury, performance and a prestigious nameplate in a 2-door model. With the introduction of the 4 Series Gran Coupe, the model line will offer similar attributes with the convenience of four doors.
