  • Buyers of Cadillac’s upscale XTS will receive a free iPad with their purchase
  • An included app teaches buyers how to use the new CUE information and entertainment system
  • Several other apps that provide vehicle information are also included

Cadillac’s all-new XTS luxury sedan will offer buyers a high-tech experience from the moment they sign the paperwork. That’s because each XTS comes with a free iPad that’s preloaded with an app designed to teach buyers the ins and outs of Cadillac’s newly released CUE information and entertainment system.

According to Cadillac, the CUE app replicates many of the controls and features of the XTS’s center stack, which lets car shoppers and XTS owners take a virtual test drive of the CUE system whenever they want.  It allows users to get to know the system away from the vehicle, leaving them less vulnerable to distracted driving while trying to learn and drive at the same time.

“CUE is intuitive, bringing touch and voice controls into the car in a really unique and helpful way,” said Don Butler, Cadillac’s U.S. vice-president of marketing. “With CUE becoming a signature feature of Cadillac, and with the launch of the XTS luxury sedan, this is an opportunity for us to build a new level into the luxury customer experience.”

The CUE information and entertainment system is important for Cadillac: it will soon be standard across much of the lineup, including the upcoming ATS sport sedan and a revised version of the SRX, the automaker’s mid-size luxury SUV.

But while the CUE information and entertainment system and a free iPad are certain to make tech-savvy buyers happy, the XTS’s high-tech features don’t end there.  The iPad will also be preloaded with Cadillac’s new MyCadillac app, which allows owners to schedule service, access roadside assistance and locate a dealer, and the new OnStar RemoteLink app, which lets owners lock and unlock doors and receive important vehicle information from virtually anywhere the iPad works.

Although the XTS will be the only vehicle on the market offered with a free iPad, it’s not the first vehicle to offer the tablet as standard equipment; Hyundai made an iPad standard on its 2011 Equus luxury sedan, although it discontinued the program the following year.

The XTS, which is equipped with rear-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive, is expected to compete with the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.  Sales of the sedan, which offers a starting price of $44,995 including destination, will begin later this spring.

What it means to you: Cadillac is excellent proof that cars will continue to become more technologically advanced in the coming years.
