The 2013 Hot Rod Power Tour kicks off in Arlington, Texas on June 1, and the dominant theme will be Chevrolet performance. Headlining this year's event is the Hot Wheels 1967 Camaro Concept, a full-size replica of the '67 "Custom Camaro," which was one of the original 16 Hot Wheels toys introduced in 1968.

The Camaro Concept is beautifully styled, but it's not just a nostalgia piece -- there's a modern LS3 E-ROD V8 crate motor under the hood. The 6.2-liter LS3 E-ROD, derived from the outgoing C6 Corvette's standard V8 engine, is billed by Chevrolet as "the first ever emission-compliant crate engine package," and it's available at any Chevy dealer or authorized Chevrolet Performance Center for a cool $9,375.

Chevrolet will also showcase the current Camaro ZL1 Convertible, the upcoming Camaro Hot Wheels Edition, and a Corvette 427 Collector Edition Convertible at this year's Power Tour, as well as the new 2014 Impala and the sporty Sonic RS.

Also on display at the Chevy Performance trailer will be the powerful LSX454R, ZZ572 and ZZ383 V8 crate engines; a partial chassis with an LS376/575 engine and 4L85E transmission installed; an LSA engine/4L85E transmission package, and an a la carte parts display.

An annual tradition since 1995, when Hot Rod staffers set off on a cross-country jaunt in some of the magazine's project cars, the Hot Rod Power Tour has grown into a popular event nationwide with thousands of participants. Roughly 3,000 hot rods will rumble into Arlington to open the Power Tour, and those who stay with the group for the entire 1,200-mile journey will be recognized as "Long Haulers" -- an honor that goes back to the original run in 1995.

Chevy Performance will also supply the "Motor Medic" Silverado support vehicle, which carries tools and parts to make sure that everyone who starts the Power Tour is able to finish.
