Chrysler 200 Super S: Detroit Auto Show
- Mopar parts transform the 200S into the 200 Super S
- Stage One upgrades appearance with spoilers, wheels and more
- Stage Two provides racier suspension, intake and exhaust
The Chrysler 200 Super S debuting at the Detroit Auto Show looks a far cry from the run-of-the-mill midsize 200 typically seen on the roadways. That's because Mopar, Chrysler's parts group, modified the 200 with their own parts, and soon owners of the six-cylinder 200S model will have the same option.
The new equipment is packaged in two stages, the first aimed at appearance and the second at performance. All together, the 200 Super S not only looks meaner than its family car counterpart, but also benefits from improved performance characteristics like a lower center of gravity.
Stage One enhancements up front include a chin spoiler, mesh upper and lower grilles with the upper grille finished in gloss black, and satin chrome grille and fog light trim. Side sills and gray or hyper black 18-inch wheels give a firmly planted look, while black chrome badges and satin chrome side molding further differentiate the Super S. In back, more satin chrome finishes the light bar, and a new trunk lid spoiler and a matte black diffuser with integrated exhaust complete the package.
Stage Two enhancements are mechanical. A cold-air intake is fitted under the hood while a cat-back exhaust replaces the stock setup. Finally, a coil-over suspension implemented at the corners results in a lower ride height and a lower center of gravity.
While the sporty look of the show car is eye-catching, Mopar president and CEO Pietro Gorlier says the 200 Super S performs better than the standard 200S, too.
"The Super S is Mopar's interpretation of the Chrysler 200," said Gorlier. "The extensive list of high-quality Mopar parts enhances the performance and appearance of our Chrysler 200."
Chrysler says the new upgrade package will be available to transform the 200S later in the year, and that the 200 Super S is one of many vehicles Mopar will modify and debut during the remainder of the auto show season.
What it means to you: Mopar created the Chrysler 200 Super S, which features upgrade for a sportier look and more lively performance. Soon the modifications will be available to owners of the 200S.
