Dodge Challenger Mopar '14: SEMA Show
What Is It?
The Mopar '14 is a very limited edition of the 2014 Dodge Challenger. It's the fifth in a series of special Mopar cars Chrysler has created annually for SEMA. This one is powered by a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 and brings back the shaker hood that Mopar popularized on its muscle cars of the 1970s. The Dodge Challenger Mopar '14 includes a pile of performance and appearance goodies, from 20-inch gloss black wheels to Mopar logos stitched into the seat backs.
Pricing has not yet been announced, but we expect prices of $40,000 to $50,000, depending on equipment.
When Can You Get It?
Ordering will begin in March, with vehicle deliveries starting in the second quarter of 2014.
Add It to Your Shopping List Because...
Current Challenger styling certainly recalls the look of Mopar cars from the early 1970s, the heyday of the muscle car. But adding touches such as Mopar striping and a big, cold-air intake extending up through the car's shaker hood makes it an even more authentic muscle car. Plus, buyers can opt for one of Mopar's new performance-enhancing Scat Packages. The real reason to choose the Dodge Challenger Mopar '14, though, is exclusivity. Dodge will make only 100 examples.
Other Cars to Consider
Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 -- This upcoming version of the Camaro also sports throwback styling and promises blistering performance to match.
Used Ford Mustang Boss 302 -- Ford built the Boss 302 for 2012 and 2013, so you'll have to shop for a used one. But it's a compelling choice among modern muscle cars, both in style and in performance.
Dodge Challenger R/T-- Instead of buying into the pricier and more exclusive Mopar '14, choose a standard R/T with the HEMI motor and add the shaker hood, which will soon be available as an accessory from Mopar.
Used Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG -- German muscle doesn't sport the same fierce look as American muscle, but it certainly packs similar power under the hood. Plus, you can buy a nice used one for less than the price of the Mopar '14.
