  •  Dart registry works like a wedding registry
  •  Dart-owner hopefuls can solicit donations
  •  Funds raised go towards buying a Dart

Buying a new car would be a lot easier if you had a little help from your friends.  With that in mind, Dodge has launched the “Dodge Dart Registry.”  The site lets shoppers seek help from their friends and family to turn their dreams of owning Dodge’s latest compact sedan into reality.

Dodge says the Dart Registry works a lot like a wedding registry.  Users sign up and configure a Dart exactly how they want it, choosing engine size, trim level and options.  The Dart Registry then itemizes the Dart’s components, allowing friends and family to sponsor specific parts.  That means others can help you attain Dart ownership by paying for items like your headlights or steering wheel.  The process will be familiar to those acquainted with Kickstarter, an online business that solicits so-called crowd funding for endeavors like independent films, music, and other projects.

According to Dodge, the site is designed so users can easily share the Dart they crave on social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter.  That will help friends and family get involved, potentially increasing donations and bringing users ever closer to the reality of owning a new Dart.  Funds raised on the site, minus processing fees, can go directly towards the purchase of a new Dart.

“Establishing an online registry is another example of how Dodge continues to create new rules with the Dodge Dart,” said Oliver Francois, Chrysler’s chief marketing officer. Dodge’s brand president, Reid Bigland, echoed that sentiment, noting that the registry is “breaking new ground by creating fun and innovative ways for consumers to interact and purchase [the Dart].”

The 2013 Dodge Dart went on sale last spring, replacing the brand’s compact Caliber hatchback.  Priced from $16,790, the Dart offers five variants: a base-level SE trim, mid-level SXT and Rallye models, an upscale Dart Limited, and the fuel-saving Dart Aero.  That model boasts up to 41 miles per gallon in highway driving thanks to a small 1.4-liter turbocharged engine from parent company Fiat.

What it means to you: Got a rich uncle?  Sign up on the Dodge Dart Registry and he may help you find your way into a new car.
