Ford to Offer Three New Colors
Ford is adding a set of colors to its lineup for the new model year.
The first of the three new colors is Ginger Ale. Ford describes the color as a gold hue with subtle hints of green. The company said the color can be found in nature on rocks, beaches and gems. Ginger Ale will make its public debut at the upcoming LA auto show on the all-new Ford Escape.
The second color, Kodiak Brown will be more of a deeper brown with a warm undertone. Ford says you can pair it with black, caramel colors, greens and blues.
The final new color will be exclusive to the electric version of Ford's Focus. The company describes it as an "icy light green that elicits a sensation of calm, relaxation and tranquility, remindful of spa or warm tropical waters."
"The new colors coming on vehicles this year are fresh, rich and grounding," said Susan Swek, one of Ford's chief designers. "We don't just choose a color and it winds up on a car. We study and understand how important color is to all kinds of our customers."
Ford's designers collaborate from all over the globe as they try to predict the hottest colors three years into the future. The company said it spends hundreds of hours coming up with the inspiration for a new cars color.
It's time well spent too - according to the company's research, up to 40 percent of new car buyers will walk out of a dealership if a car isn't available in the right color.
Even the color's name can have a big effect on a person's connection with a new car. "It's important that the color name matches the personality of the vehicle," said Swek. "Customers become emotionally connected to names. The name 'Champagne' is a lot different than the name 'Sand,' and all of that has to be carefully considered before a vehicle is ever presented to the public."
