General Motors Offers Free Maintenace
- Two years or 24,000 miles free maintenance
- For select Buick, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles
- Applies even if you've already purchased a GM car
The plan covers certain cars and is good for two years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. Toyota and BMW have similar plans. It's a good deal for potential customers, but General Motors has a selfish motive, too. Dan Akerson, GM chairman and CEO says, "We know that customers who service their vehicles at our dealerships are much more likely to purchase another GM product down the road." Still, it's the buyer who benefits.
The service includes an oil and filter change, 4-tire rotation and a 27-point inspection. This doesn't include oil changes for some alternative-fueled vehicles and excludes tire rotation for high-performance cars. We're guessing Corvette is on that list.
The General Motors plan includes up to four visits in the 2-year period and is transferable to another owner. Already bought a 2014 Chevrolet, Buick or GMC? You're in luck; the plan applies to you, too.
What it means to you: The battle for your new car dollar is heating up. At the very least, add Buick, Chevrolet or GMC vehicles to your shopping list. You might want to ask your dealer for a free car wash each time you show up, too -- they'll probably do it.
