  • Civic Type R Concept coming to Geneva
  • Offers 280 hp; previews upcoming production model
  • Production Civic Type R unlikely to reach the U.S.

The  Honda Civic Type R Concept is coming to the Geneva Auto Show. That's the latest from Honda, which recently released a teaser photo of the hot hatchback ahead of its show debut next month.

On the outside, the Civic Type R Concept looks every bit like a hot hatchback should, boasting features such as quad exhausts, a rear diffuser, muscular wheel arches and a large rear wing. The Type R Concept also includes big alloy wheels and a body kit to give it a lower, wider appearance. In front, there's a gray grille and an aggressive bumper for a sporty look.

Unfortunately, Honda hasn't revealed the Type R Concept's interior, possibly because it's only a concept car. But we expect the upcoming production version to include sport seats, a manual transmission and red accents that don't let you forget you aren't in a typical Civic.

Fortunately, Honda did announce what's under the Civic Type R Concept's hood. That would be a 280-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, likely mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Honda says the engine is fully compliant with European emissions regulations, which means the engine will likely be included on the production model.

But that production model is unlikely to come to the U.S. Previous Civic Type R models have been limited to European and Asian markets, and the next one is expected to be no different. That's a shame, since the American hot hatchback segment is heating up with new models such as the Ford Focus ST and Hyundai Veloster Turbo.

We'll have more information on the 2015 Honda Civic Type R Concept when it makes its Geneva debut next month.

What it means to you: The Civic Type R hatchback is attractive, fast, fun and, sadly, off-limits to U.S. buyers.
