  • Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge Concept unveiled ahead of Detroit
  • Offers sporty exterior touches such as improved aerodynamics
  • Infiniti hasn't revealed changes made under the concept car's skin

Infiniti is bringing a high-performance sport-sedan concept car to this year's Detroit Auto Show. Dubbed the Q50 Eau Rouge Concept, the concept model is essentially a Q50 sedan that's been upgraded for improved performance with the help of Infiniti's Red Bull Formula 1 racing team.

Such upgrades are clearly visible with just one glance to the car's exterior. That's where you'll find a carbon fiber front splitter and rear diffuser for improved handling, a dual exhaust system for more power and more noise, and stylish upgrades such as a rear spoiler, a body kit and 21-inch lightweight alloy wheels.

The Q50 Eau Rouge also boasts updated bodywork that gives the car a more aerodynamic shape and a lower center of gravity. In fact, Infiniti says only the roof panel and doors remain unchanged from a standard Q50. All other panels were revised in pursuit of more speed and better airflow.

Interestingly, Infiniti has not yet announced what changes have been made under the Q50 Eau Rouge's hood. While standard Q50 models use a 328-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission, we'd expect the Eau Rouge Concept to at least boast a horsepower bump, if not an entirely new powerplant.

Infiniti has also not announced what to expect inside the Q50 Eau Rouge's cabin. We'd imagine the concept car will include heavily bolstered sport seats, colorful contrast stitching and a thick steering wheel for improved grip.

Keep checking back for more information about the Q50 Eau Rouge Concept, as we'll learn more later this month when the sporty sedan is revealed in Detroit.

What it means to you: The Infiniti Q50Eau Rouge Concept brings an even sportier side to the Q50 lineup -- if the brand decides to put the car into production.
